OCMHA 2015-16: Reminder - please register asap

2015-08-25

Important Information

One more message as you all transition out of summer mode - we are in the final planning stages for the upcoming season, and it very important that you register asap so that we can fairly allocate ice, assign volunteers, balance our budget, etc. Some divisions might be oversubscribed, forcing us to create waitlists. No one wants that - avoid disappointment. The sooner we know the total demand, the sooner we can make additional plans - we want everyone in OC to have a place to play!

...and mark your June 2016 calendar to register for the 2016-17 season...

Spots are still available for the preseason skills and goalie clinics.

Thanks if you've registered - please remind your friends and neighbours. We have room to grow our numbers in addition to accepting all returning families, but we need to know who wants to play. Starting next season, the City will be allocating all public ice (and other recreation facilities) in direct relationship with previous seasons' participation rates.

See all details below, and please monitor the website as the season approaches.

Thanks!
Your OC Executive

This message is being sent to all parents/players in our 2014-15 file. The 2015-16 parent/player file will be refreshed with updated and current Hockey Canada registration data later this month. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Registration:

If you have not done so already, < PLEASE REGISTER ASAP >. We may be forced to restrict numbers due to limited ice and volunteer resources. It can't be overstated enough how important it is that you pre-register in the next few weeks. You may pay online, but if paying by cheque or email transfer, please select the "pay by cheque" option during the registration. Hockey Canada has yet to program in an e-mail transfer directly into the registration process. Emailed registration fees should be sent to the Treasurer at financial@ocmha.ca, not the Registrar! Cheques can be dropped off at 122 Hopewell Ave.

If you have friends or neighbours who have not yet registered, please urge them to do so immediately.

Preseason Clinics for All Goalies, and Novice / Atom / Peewee Skaters:

Refer to the < * PRESEASON CLINICS * > page. Please contact clinics@ocmha.ca if you have any questions or cannot pay online. These clinics fill quickly, so act now!

Preseason Ice:

Refer to the < * PRESEASON ICE * > page for the blocks of ice allocated to each division for the first 2 weeks of the sortout process (Sep 9th to 20th). By early September the conveners will update with who should attend each hour during these blocks.

Welcome Back Event:

6:30pm to 9:30pm Wednesday September 9th at The Old Firehall (aka The Ottawa South Community Centre, 260 Sunnyside Ave, K1S 0R7). Since the association does almost everything online and via email, we've decided to once again kick off the new season with an evening for you to:

- see friends and team members you've been 'missing' since April
- meet the OC executive members and division conveners
- learn about volunteering opportunities - we need help!
- get info on being a coach, trainer, manager or treasurer
- get forms and understand process for Police Record Checks
- become a sponsor
- bring in your registration fees
- find out when your preseason sortouts and clinics begin
- get info on how to use www.ocmha.ca
- be fitted and order a mouth guard (see details below)
- provide feedback / suggestions, ask questions about the association, league, teiring, policies, etc.

There will also be a convener's meeting - details to be sent separately.

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Sponsor prizes and draws will be featured.

Please drop in for a few minutes!

Mouthguard Clinic: OC's Hannes Girgis (www.girgisdentalcare.ca) is once again offering high quality, custom-fitted mouth guards for our players this season. Cost is $45, payable by cash at the Firehall. The fit of a custom mouth guard is far superior to any boil-and-bite or off-the-shelf model. They provide better protection, are more comfortable to wear, are more durable and come in a variety of solid or multi-colours. If you have other children or neighbours who play hockey or ringette, they are also welcome. In order to avoid lining up for too long, please try to attend as follows:
  • 6:30pm - IP and Novice
  • 7:45pm - Atom and Peewee
  • 8:30pm - Bantam, Midget and Juvenile
  • or contact Hannes to make an appointment at his office
