The PeeWee B Beatles and Bandits face off in all-OC city tournament final.
Beatles and Bandits play for OC glory
It was an all-Ottawa Centre A-side final in the PeeWee B City of Ottawa tournament this weekend.
A hard fought, tight-checking game ensued on the big Peplinsky ice at Jim Durrell Arena. The game went back and forth with a number of momentum changes.
The OC PeeWee Bandits, coached by Kirk Munroe, went up 1-0 in the first period on a goal by Marcello Britto, a score that stuck well into the game.
Just when it began to look like that might be the winning goal, the OC Beatles, coached by Peter Egener, tied it midway through the third with a goal from Graeme Carruthers-Lay. On the cusp of overtime, the Beatles' Andrew Czich scored to put the Beatles up 2-1 in a goal-mouth scramble with less than a minute left.
As the clock ticked down, the remaining seconds were tense and exciting, but the goal held up to give the Beatles the championship.
Goalie Kirill Dupuis, who made 25 saves, was voted outstanding player for the Bandits; Andrew Czich was voted outstanding player for the Beatles. OCMHA President Eric Lay – in his first high profile public function as president – was on hand to distribute trophies and medals to the deserving players on both teams.
Congratulations to both teams for making the final.
