Your child’s first ice time will be the morning of Sunday, September 18 at Brewer Arena.
We have the ice that day between 8am and 11am, and will assign your child a time within that range in the coming days – stay tuned.
- Plan to arrive early enough at the first practice to pick-up the hockey jersey that your child will wear.
- For the IP kids it is expected that a parent will always stay at the arena while their child is on the ice.
- A general list of required equipment can be found here; email me at ocmhaip@gmail.com if you are new to hockey and require some additional details.
The first ice time will be devoted to orienting kids and parents to the program, and to some preliminary sorting of the kids by skill level. By the end of September, we will have the kids sorted into beginning, intermediate and advanced groups (though there is movement between these groups during the year). If you believe that your child is a beginner skater, could you email the IP Convener David Baar at ocmhaip@gmail.com by September 8th? (we want to get them off to a positive start)
The ice schedule for the year is not finalized, but we expect to have Sunday morning, 8-11; Tuesday, 5-6; and Thursday 6-7 (all at Brewer), most weeks. You can expect your child to be on the ice for half of the Sunday morning session, and to rotate through the Tuesday and Thursday slots. There should be a firm schedule available by the end of the month.
We will have a parents’ meeting in the coming weeks to introduce ourselves and provide more information about the program. In the meantime, please keep checking the Initiation page of the OCMHA website for more information.
