Parents! Players!
Welcome to "Novice C1". My name is Tim Radcliffe (Blake's dad). I've been on the ice for our first two practices (alongside Carl, Mike, and Doug). Based on what I've seen so far, we've got a great group of players who are looking forward to having fun this year!
I'm certain that we're all over-extended and pulled in multiple directions (e.g. other kids, other activities). But assuming that all parents step-up to equally share the load (off-ice and on-ice), I'm confident that it will be an *excellent* season for the kids! Here's some info and the next steps:
(1) Volunteers - We need a team manager as soon as possible. We also need a trainer and a roster of assistant coaches and on-ice helpers. Each role has some required training and safety checks. Please contact me directly to discuss how you can help: tim.radcliffe@ppsc.gc.ca or 613-795-8783.
(2) Schedule - Our next two practices are posted online (see "Novice C1" on www.ocmha.ca): Friday, Sept 30 at 7:00pm (Brewer) and Thursday, Oct 6 at 6:00pm (Grandmaitre). I've been told that October and November will be posted soon.
(3) Parent meeting - I'd like to meet with as many parents as possible sometime soon. Ideally, we can meet for 20 minutes following a morning Brewer practice (with a parent taking the players to kick a soccer ball while we chat). I want us all to share expectations and priorities.
(4) Jersey - Old "practice" jerseys were distributed last weekend. I'll bring the remaining ones to Friday's practice. New "game" jerseys will arrive soon, and we'll ensure that numbers are chosen fairly. Please return any remaining pinnies to me.
(5) Goalie - Please let me know if your child wishes to try playing in net. We've got access to gear. Otherwise, we'll rotate all the players through this position for games and practices.
(6) Team name - Please solicit some options from your child, and we'll vote sometime soon. I trust you'll use your good judgment to steer them away from violence (e.g. "Atomic Warheads").
(7) Sponsor - Give some thought to potential team sponsors. All extra funds help defray the additional expenses that we normally shoulder (e.g. out-of-town tournament(s), pucks, etc).
(8) Other issues - Please contact me with any concerns or questions or ideas. Like many of you, my family is new to Novice, so we'll figure it all out together!
