Return to Hockey - Important Message for OC Families

2022-01-31

Please read

Hi OC families,

Great to see some hockey back on the schedule for a change!

As we return to the ice, please note that all of the COVID safety rules that were in place before the break will continue to apply.  In order to keep our hockey community safe, we ask that everyone please continue to follow the rules closely to help ensure that we aren’t taking any unnecessary risks.

A key change for this session is that the Provincial rules require everyone over 12 who enters an arena to provide a QR Code showing proof of vaccination.  Anyone claiming an exemption from the requirement must have a QR Code evidencing an official exemption from the Province.  Please have your QR codes with you at each ice time for the safety coordinator to scan.

Also, it will be very important to make sure that masks are being worn properly at all times, including in the dressing rooms before and after games.   We ask that coaches, safety coordinators and other volunteers to work together to make that happen.

A quick reminder of the other key requirements:

  • Safety coordinators must check that all OC spectators have been fully vaccinated.  Please verify the QR code of any spectators whose codes weren’t checked prior to the break.
  • Please complete the screening form before every icetime and DO NOT come to hockey if you have any COVID symptoms, even if they seem minor.  Follow the directions from public health before returning to the ice.
  • Notify your coach/safety coordinator if you have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID.
  • Please respect social distancing, limit the time you spend in the facilities and avoid congregating in groups before or after games.
  • Ensure that all public health and facility rules are followed at all times.

We continue to recommend that players who are able to do so wear masks while on the ice.  Coaches and bench staff have to remain masked at all times.

Once again, thank you so much for all of your efforts to keep the kids on the ice.  Throughout the pandemic, the OCMHA community has been outstanding in its support of these extraordinary measures, which is perhaps no surprise, but is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, please contact Matt at riskandsafety@ocmha.ca

Thank you and see you in the rink!
