Jim Weiler - Dedicated and Beloved Volunteer

2022-07-29

Condolences from your OCMHA family....

We have recently lost an OCMHA friend and fellow, Jim Weiler.  Also a profoundly good guy who enriched our OOS/Glebe neighborhood. Jim passed away last week to cancer.  There will be a memorial service on Sunday - details below.

WEILER, Ronald James (Jim) April 23, 1969

With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to Jim on July 19, 2022. In March of this year, Jim was diagnosed with cancer for a third time. He faced his illness with courage, hope and love for all of those around him. Jim was born in Guelph, Ontario.

He will always be deeply loved by his partner in life, Lynn Lovett and his cherished sons, Carson and Jamie.

He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Joanne (nee Sauer), siblings Robin McQuillan (Gary), Sherry and Rick (Tina), his nephew Robert and nieces, Codie and Kathryn.

He will be forever missed by Lynn's parents, Herb and Marilyn Lovett, and her sister, Lori Lovett (Craig Bascombe) and niece, Charlotte. Sadly, Jim was predeceased by his father, Ron Weiler in May 2022.

Thank you to everyone involved in his care, and who supported him through his journey.

Family and Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor), on Saturday, July 30 from 1-3pm and 5-7pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Sunday, July 31 at 1 p.m. To view the livestream of the Service please visit Jim's page on the Funeral Home website. Masks are required for all attendees of the visitation and/or Service. In lieu of flowers, In Memoriam donations to The Friends of Algonquin Park, or another charity of your choice are appreciated.Condolences/Tributes/Donations

This news is so very sad.  When I think of Jim I think of beavers for sure and all the shenanigans involved and his ability to be so 'fluid' managing all that you manage when you have 25 beavers and 50 parents, caregivers, or guardians to manage as he used to say.  And I think of coaching hockey of course and whether Jamie and Liam were on the same team, or if they were 'dreaded rivals' -  it was always great fun being around Jim.  But by far, my fondest memories of Jim was to watch him with an acoustic guitar in hand.  Everytime I hear 'Boom 99.7' play the classic Neil Diamond song "Sweet Caroline" all I think about, with a big smile, is Jim bellowing out the song, strumming on an acoustic guitar, as he was in a truly 'happy place'.

This is so tragic and unfair for Lynn, Carson, and Jamie, and a community loss as well.  I know that there is a happy guitar strumming gentle soul on the other side, and it is the only thing that gives me solace about this whole terrible situation.

I'm just gutted for Jamie, Carson and Lynn - a big-hearted, kind soul gone far too soon.

I saw this on FB the other day and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Jim was a profoundly kind, gentle and thoughtful guy. While we never coached together on the same OCMHA team, we were Beaver leaders together at Southminster United for several years around 2008. Kids just loved Jim period. He made things fun but also had a keen ability to keep the energy and chaos of 30+ 6-8 year olds together to a reasonable level in that church basement. I will very fondly remember canal skates with Jim and weekend trips with the OOS Beaver troop to Camp Opimekon with that large group of kids. Jim’s time was cut far too short and he will be truly missed.
