On the eve of the Sharpshooters’ first playoff game against the SE Novice B2 Snoring Elvises, we are providing you with a handy guide to your 2015-2016 Sharpshooters, broken down by category, which will help you get the most out of your cheering experience:

Crafty Playmakers

8.     Jack Annan – A part time goalie who absolutely wowed when he was in net, Jack is a force on the ice and a player who can be put into any situation and do his job.  Though he is known to take the occasional nap on the ice in practice, Jack never takes a nap during games, playing his relentless style and helping the team in any way that he can, whether it be by blocking shots or setting up his teammates for great chances.

11.          Misha – One of the very hardest workers on the team, Misha never gives up on the puck, chasing it down at both ends of the ice with his incredible speed.  Though he occasionally gets so involved in the game that his coaches need a hook to get him off the ice, Misha’s passion is contagious, and his teammates have no excuse for not giving their best when they see the effort that Misha is putting in.  Look for Misha as a player that can always be counted on at critical times during the game.

15.          Tavish Norman – A great team player who can be absolutely dominant on ice, Tavish is a real difference maker for the Sharpshooters every game he plays.  Equally likely to be found low in the defensive zone backing up his defence as he is racing forward, Tavish is an offensive dynamo, powering up the ice and letting go a hard, low shot that gives opposition goalies fits.  Look for Tavish to play a huge role for the Sharpshooters when the going gets tough.

Power Wingers

13.          Henry Chernoff – Getting better and better with every game he plays, Henry is another player who will play anywhere without complaint, which he regularly announces on the bench.  Regardless of his role on a given day, what is very apparent is that this kid has moves, slipping and sliding his way past defenders (though never in the danger zone) to launch the rush.  Look for Henry to be the break-out player of the 2016 playoffs.

17.          Carolyn Barbe – A super strong winger with the one of the hardest shots on the team, Carolyn is virtually unstoppable when she gets into full flight (and she is completely unstoppable when she lifts both of her feet).  As a winger who can always be counted on to be in her spot on the boards in the defensive end and to win the puck, a great effort from Carolyn is critical to the Sharpshooter’s success this year, as a first year player who really makes a difference.

Owens

3.            Owen Bernier – As the Sharpshooters’ primary goalie, Owen gives the team a chance to win every time he plays in goal.  With his lightning-quick reflexes and fearless style, opposition shooters are left wondering what they have to do to get one past him (hint:  we’re not sure).  When he isn’t goaltending, his pastimes include playing rock-solid defence, and forming one-third of the Sharpshooters’ incredible all-Owen line.

9.            Owen Kenney – Usually first to arrive and last to leave at games and practices, Owen’s enthusiasm for hockey and relentless hard work is contagious amongst the other Sharpshooters.  Whenever the team needs a spark, whether from a spectacular defensive play or a quick rush, Owen is there to provide it.  And oh yeah, like his fellow Owen, he is also a top tier goaltender ready to step in at any time and shut down opposition scorers.

11.          Owen Norman – The Sharpshooters’ unofficial Assistant to the Assistant Coach, this Owen has a real mind for the game, and he is always working with the younger Sharpshooters to help them fit into the team system*.  Not only that, he is a real leader on the ice and in the room, ready and willing to lend a hand, whether by setting up pylons or by filling in gaps in Coach Matt’s pregame speech.  Owen is also a stalwart on defence in his own right, stabilizing things in his own end, and showing his offensive talents when he electrifyies fans with his rushing ability.

*Note that the team does not have a system.

Nates/Nathaniels

16.          Nathaniel Steffler – One of the Sharpshooters’ slickest and cleverest finesse players, Nathaniel is an unflappable, smiling offensive dynamo who can always be counted on to lead the team’s offence.  More than that, Nathaniel is an Assistant to the Assistant Coach’s dream, because he plays the game unselfishly, ensuring that he always gets into the right position on defence and then looking for his teammates and making great passes to teammates when he inevitably ends up with the puck.

6.            Nate Leckie – Mature beyond his tender years, Nate is always a real force on the ice, whether he plays on forward or defence, both of which, for the record, he is equally willing to play.   No matter where this great team player is slotted in the line-up, he does an excellent job, and when he gets the puck he completely mesmerizes opposing defenders with his sweet moves and quick feet, dancing up the ice to create great scoring chances.

Gregoires

Slick Speed Demons

4.            Fionn Quinn – A great defenceman and a great winger with a great smile, Fionn has worked extremely hard this year and the results are obvious every time he hits the ice.  With one of the best poke checks on the team, the rapidly improving Fionn is now faster, stronger with the puck and more focused on the game, which makes him a bigger and bigger factor in the game and a player that the coaches can count on day in and day out.

2.            Yann Curri – A sniper with fantastic puck skills, Yann can be a game breaker with his slick moves and offensive instincts.  When he gets up a head of speed and blows by defenders to charge in on net, Yann will inevitably wow the crowd by unleashing his rocket of a shot.  But Yann is not a one-trick pony by any means.  His shooting ability is now rivalled closely by his passing ability as he continues to evolve into an all-around player going into the toughest games of the year.

7.            Julia Meagher – A quick skating player with a rocket of a shot, Julia is particularly effective when there are Smarties on the line.  With each passing game Julia has gotten stronger and stronger, challenging for the puck, moving her feet and making unselfish passes to her teammates.  With her speed and great shot, it is only a matter of time before she breaks out and becomes the John Druce of the Sharpshooters.

14.          Ross Kenney – Also first to arrive and last to leave, if you only saw Ross play in goal, you would think that he is a full-time goalie and a great one at that.  You would be wrong however, as Ross excels as a player as well, taking charge on both the offensive and defensive sides of the puck.  One of the team’s quickest and most reliable forwards, Ross is equally at home bearing down on net on a breakaway and flying back on defence to steal the puck from an opposing forward and take away a scoring chance.

Embattled Coaching staff

Coach Kevin – The nicest Sharpshooters coach by far, Kevin is a real inspiration for the kids with his fancy skating and his fancy moves.  Occasionally Kevin will even read the practice plan.

Coach Shawn – An extremely dedicated coach who has done wonders with all of the goalies, Coach Shawn is short.

Manager Eric – An involuntary new manager to start the year, the way Eric stepped into the gap and filled it was admirable, an adjective that would not describe his inflated contract demands for next season.

Coach Rob – We are basically sure that he was the one who stole the pylons, but we can’t prove it.

Coach Matt – Though regularly outdone by Assistant to the Assistant Coach Owen Norman on his pre-game speeches, Coach Matt can at least be counted on to show up almost all of the time.

Those are them, your 2015-16 Sharpshooters, as they head into what is sure to be an entertaining round of playoffs.  Look for them in an arena somewhat near you!
