To All OC Families...

Hello OC Families,

Hockey season is getting closer, which takes a bit of the sting away from being over halfway through summer!

Please register your player as soon as possible. This helps us plan ice for the coming year. Please see the links at the end of this email for registration information. Also, below is a call for convenors and information on a pilot for a rebate for OC goalies.

Call for convenors
OC is still seeking convenors for the U9, U11 and U18 levels. Thanks to all convenors who have volunteered so far to support this year.

Being a convenor is an off-ice role that allows you to contribute to a positive hockey environment where our young people can thrive. Experience is not required! Convenors and other Exec members are here to offer guidance throughout and coaches are always very supportive. It’s a great community that is open to sharing strategies for sort outs. This also gives you first hand insight into decisions being made by the association. We also appreciate convenors sharing concerns with the exec throughout the season that may not come forward otherwise. This helps us communicate with all levels effectively, so we can work together to make sure our players have the best hockey experience possible!

Minor hockey is a volunteer-driven endeavour and we’re grateful for every family that shares their time. If you would like to volunteer or require more information on how convening works, do not hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Goalie Rebate Pilot
OC wants to support our goalies by piloting a rebate of $100 off registration fees for U11 to U18. Goalies who play full time for their team during the 2022-2023 season - as confirmed by their coach - will get the rebate at the end of the year. In addition to the goalie rebate, OCMHA has goalie gear that can be borrowed for the season, if required.
We are testing this rebate out because OC has experienced a shortage of goalies at the U11 level and higher over the years. This has put pressure on teams, parents and coaches. We appreciate that this is a big role and hope this helps those thinking about nets to give it a try. We also offer goalie clinics to support learning and development throughout the season. Group goalie training through the association is a cost effective way to learn about and try out the position. Any questions can be sent to Shawn Kenny, OC’s Director of Goalie Development, at goaliedevelopment@ocmha.ca
